Cherish the Important People

We spend a lot of our time chasing dreams and fantasies. We spend a lot of energy chasing society’s model of success. Sometimes, we get so engrossed in the chase of society’s standards, we forget to cherish the people who are most important in our lives.

Some people forget their parents in their pursuit of success. They can’t make time to show up for Sunday lunch or make the trip down for Christmas. Some people forget their families, some people forget the friends who have helped them get through their difficult times.

No matter how lonely your life may seem, there are important people who God has placed in your life, and you must cherish those people. Society’s model of success will get you the respect of strangers but without the love of the important people God has placed in your life, it will all feel like emptiness. Stay connected to the important people in your life. Show them that you care. Show up at the door with flowers. Cook lunch and deliver it yourself. Spend time lazing around the garden with them. Enjoy the time you have with them. Yes, you might earn the respect of strangers; you might even have a whole lot of people queuing up to be your friend after you succeed, but nothing can replace the important people in your life. Don’t forget it.

  1. This article is so timely for me. I had a harsh reality check in December that my priorities were out of order! I was so busy climbing the corporate ladder that I viewed my family, friends, children and husband as thorns when I came home exhausted and not having time or energy for them. After my health took a beating from the stress at work I took a leave and boy did I need it. I rekindled my relationship and saw they were not thorns at all but the beautiful roses of my life. I took another step and never returned to that job because it robbed me of a healthy life balance. This article is so REAL! Thank you!
